The Denver Broncos encountered an unexpected setback ahead of their Sunday Night Football game with the Los Angeles Rams when they placed running back Jonah Coleman (ankle) on injured reserve, per ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter on Saturday.
Coleman will miss four games, which are in the middle of the toughest stretch of the year for the Broncos. Coleman will miss games against the Rams, San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Chargers and Seattle Seahawks. With Denver currently 1-1, it will be up to veterans RJ Harvey, J.K. Dobbins and Tyler Badie to carry the rushing attack. Both Dobbins and Harvey were on the injured list this week, which could lead to practice squad back Cody Schrader coming up to the active roster.
Coleman was in line to see an increase
in action after a big performance in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Coleman had 13 total touches for 58 yards and a touchdown in the Broncos' win. Coleman impressed coaches with his veteran maturity in a two-minute situation, and fans with a Mile High Salute after his score.
Coleman will hopefully come back better than before, ready for a bigger workload in Week 7 and beyond.
