The Denver Broncos have a deep roster, which makes cuts even more difficult.
The Broncos made 38 moves over the weekend to get down to an initial 53-man roster, and cut players with fewer than four credited seasons were subject to the NFL's waiver wire.
The NFL's transaction wire was revealed on Monday and Denver lost two players, both to the same team. The Miami Dolphins claimed tight end Justin Joly (a fifth-round draft pick) and cornerback Reese Taylor from the Broncos. Both players likely would have been top targets for Denver's practice squad had they cleared waivers.
Last year, cornerback Damarri Mathis was picked up by the Carolina Panthers (reuniting with defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero) and undrafted rookie offensive lineman Xavier Truss
was claimed by the New Orleans Saints after being waived by Denver. Two years ago, offensive tackle Demontrey Jacobs was claimed by the New England Patriots.
