What is the story about?

The Denver Broncos pulled off a wild upset win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football in Week 3. However, the win was not without its controversy.

On the Broncos

’ final scoring drive of the game, wide receiver Pat Bryant was on the sideline, covered by the Rams defensive back Josh Wallace. The DB seemingly intercepted the pass, but then the yellow laundry hit the field. Pass interference on Wallace.

On the NBC broadcast, rules analyst Terry McAulay disagreed with the call on the field, saying Bryant pulled Wallace into him.

The Broncos went on to score the go-ahead touchdown several plays later, but there was much disagreement with how the play resulted on social media.

Former Broncos safety and Super Bowl 50 champion T.J. Ward said

that Bryant had been contacted the whole way.

However, former All-Pro corner Richard Sherman vehemently disagreed with the call. Sherman has previously (and perhaps unsurprisingly) sided with defenders on close-contact plays such as the one that occurred on Sunday night.

Former Rams center Andrew Whitworth believed this may have been a cosmic justice nearly eight years in the making for Payton. In the 2018 NFC Championship game, when Whitworth's Rams played Payton's New Orleans Saints, there was one of the worst no-call pass interference hits in NFL history missed by the referees.

"I say we call it even," Whitworth tweeted on Sunday.
