Former Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow has a very special assignment ahead of the home opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars: planting the flag before the game.
Planting the flag has been reserved for former players to hype up the crowd on game days. Tebow makes a Mile High return for the first time since 2011, when he threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to late Ring of Fame wide receiver Demaryius Thomas to win an AFC wild card playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Tebow's time in Denver was wild. After being selected with the 25th overall pick by Denver in the 2010 NFL draft out of Florida, Tebow sat for nearly his entire rookie season, before playing in the final three games of the season, going 1-2 as a starter.
Then, Tebow was thrust
into a full-fledged quarterback controversy between him and Kyle Orton in 2011. After Orton struggled mightily to begin the season, Tebow was thrust into action, with games seemingly out of reach for 55 minutes before last-minute comebacks. Tebow went a remarkable 7-4 as a starter, including ripping off a six-game win streak to help Denver get into the playoffs that fall.
Tebow may be one of the most polarizing players in Broncos history, but he is certainly one of the most memorable.

Tebow recently appeared on an episode of the Broncos' "Jersey Swap" podcast with current quarterback Bo Nix, and they discussed their connection and their individual accomplishments.
Speaking after Thursday's practice, Nix called Tebow a great friend and role model.
"It'll be awesome to see him sort of in his environment back in his spot," Nix said. "Our relationship's grown as we've gone on. ... I was a huge fan — he was my favorite quarterback growing up."

Tebow and Nix hope to lead the Broncos back into the win column on Sunday.
