Denver Broncos outside linebacker Jonah Elliss (lower leg) does not have a season-ending injury, coach Sean Payton indicated after Wednesday's practice. However, Payton noted that more on Elliss' injury will be announced "later in the week."
That might be a hint that Elliss could be placed on short-term injured reserve on Saturday. If he's placed on IR, Elliss will have to sit out at least four games before being eligible to return.
Elliss, 23, limped off the field late in the fourth quarter of last Thursday's 17-14 win over the Seattle Seahawks. By gutting it out and making it off the field, Elliss saved the Broncos from having to burn a timeout. He was then carted from the sideline into the locker room.
Two days later, Elliss was spotted wearing
a walking boot and using crutches at a Colorado-Utah college football game. The pass rusher's ensuing message on social media essentially confirmed that he would be sidelined for a bit.
"Be right back 🤙🏽," Elliss wrote on his Instagram page alongside James 1:2-4, a Bible passage about remaining joyful during trials that test faith and produce steadfastness.
Elliss started the first six games of the season while Jonathon Cooper was on the commissioner’s exempt list, recording 12 tackles, one sack and one pass breakup. Cooper was reinstated by the NFL last week, and he will be eligible to play against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7.
