Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims had a costly (and controversial) fumble against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
In the third quarter, with the game tied 3-3, Mims fielded a punt and fumbled as his forearm hit the ground. San Francisco recovered the fumble, and while it was questioned by fans and pundits, the fumble stood after review. The Niners went on to score a touchdown to take a 10-3 lead after that game-changing turnover.
"Honestly, I don't — I didn't look at it or anything — so I'm not sure," Mims said after the game when asked what happened on the fumble. "I know I lost the ball. Can't do that. You know, No. 1 job of a returner is to get the offense possession of the ball, so didn't do that unfortunately. Unfortunately, it turned
into seven points for them, and it's a big play that can't happen."

Mims later said it was probably his worst game as a Bronco.
Denver coach Sean Payton said they didn't have a good vantage point of the play that was ruled a fumble.
“We went through the mechanics," Payton said after an eventual 24-14 loss. "We don't have any type of good view, at least from our angle. Sometimes we do. That was on the opposite side of our bench. So, anytime there's a turnover, you're going to rely on replay, so it really doesn't matter.”
Mims finished the day with a 10-yard catch on three targets on offense and that one fumble on his lone punt return.
