The play before Denver Broncos defensive lineman Malcolm Roach brought down Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes for the end to the dramatic 28-24 win on Sunday afternoon, it seemed like the Chiefs scored a touchdown on a slant route to end the game.
However, a yellow penalty flag negated the score: false start on the Chiefs. The penalty moved the ball from the 1-yard line to the 6-yard line, a much more difficult play. It was in this circumstance that Malcolm Roach and Co. got after Mahomes, eventually ending up with Mahomes eating the ball and taking the sack.
Brittany Mahomes, wife of the star quarterback, vehemently disagreed with the call on social media after the game, calling it "the weakest call I have ever seen."

Brittany was roasted by fans across the NFL landscape in the comments, with many calling her complaints about the referees rich, considering much of the NFL felt like Kansas City received favorable calls for several years running during their back-to-back Super Bowl run and before.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid also disagreed with the call.
“I didn’t see it,” Reid said in his postgame presser. “That’s one man’s opinion. I saw him move his head, but I didn’t see a false start.”
Kansas City's quarterback offered this take: “It couldn’t have been big, but it was called,” Mahomes said. “At the end of the day, you have to go with whatever is called, but a lot of times in those big moments, the little stuff doesn’t get called like that.”
Was the call a little ticky-tack? Maybe. However, video replay showed the leg of the offending Chiefs offensive lineman twitch before the snap. But we think the same way former San Francisco 49ers coach Steve Mariucci did when a similar call decided a playoff game in January 2003: "Bummer." It doesn't look like a whole lot of fans, Broncos fans or otherwise, have a whole lot of sympathy for the Chiefs' plight.
The Broncos now control their fate heading into Week 9 and moving forward in the AFC playoff picture and the AFC West race.
