Denver Broncos safety Talanoa Hufanga (ankle) has an uncertain status going into a Thursday Night Football showdown with the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6.
Following Denver's 23-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers
on Sunday, the Denver Gazette’s Chris Tomasson tweeted that Hufanga was in a walking boot and said "I don't know" when asked if he'll play on Thursday. (Tomasson has since deleted the original tweet, but the Hufanga quote remains in his published story.)Hufanga injured his ankle in the third quarter and was ruled out in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game.
Hufanga wearing a boot doesn't necessarily reveal anything — earlier this season, wide receiver Jaylen Waddle caused a panic in Broncos Country after being spotted in a boot after a game,
but he played in the team's next game. That said, unless it's an extremely minor ankle injury, it's hard to imagine Hufanga suiting up on a short week.
If Hufanga is not able to play against Seattle, Devon Key would likely be the next man up to start across from Brandon Jones at safety. Key played 26 snaps against Los Angeles.
Broncos cornerbacks Pat Surtain (ankle) and Riley Moss (ribs) also have uncertain statuses for Thursday after sitting out Sunday's game. Moss was an estimated limited participant on Monday's injury report (the team did not practice), which is a positive early sign. Denver's scheduled to practice on Tuesday, and they will release their final injury report with game statuses on Wednesday.
