I hope nobody bet the farm on last week’s prediction! Both the Chiefs and the Broncos surprised me on Monday night. The Chiefs played smashmouth football, controlled the clock, and dominated the second half of the game.
The Broncos made fundamental errors throughout the game. Penalties, turnovers, and missed tackles highlighted these miscues. If you don’t get the fundamentals right on the football field nothing else matters. What’s more fundamental than tackling the guy with the ball on defense? It’s as fundamental as following up with sales leads as a salesman. I didn’t think the Broncos would miss run stoppers Jonathan Cooper and John-Franklin
Meyers against the historically pass first KC offense, but they certainly did. Poor pursuit angles and terrible tackling technique led to many missed one on one tackle opportunities. This defense has swarmed the football in recent years. That didn’t happen on Monday night. Any NFL team that sees that tape will run the ball until the Broncos prove they can stop it. A short week after such a disheartening loss is a good thing. The sooner you can get that bad taste out of your mouth as a player the better. Go Broncos!
