Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning has stayed an active part of the Denver Broncos organization long after his retirement. From starring in the team's schedule release videos to helping with tributes surrounding former teammate Demaryius Thomas, and producing a documentary about fellow Hall of Famer John Elway, Manning continues to remain invested in the team.
And from the sound of it, Manning still has influence on coach Sean Payton and Bo Nix up to now. When Payton appeared on the ManningCast with Peyton and his brother Eli earlier this week, Eli revealed Peyton sends voice messages and texts to Payton and quarterback Bo Nix.
"Coach, I know Peyton watches all the Broncos games; I also heard he texts you and Bo Nix after the games," said
Eli. "Kind of a two-part question here: How annoying is that, and does he also send you voice memos, because those are the worst if you've ever gotten those?"
"Listen, he's not too long with those (voice memos)," Payton joked. "I do get all his Omaha Production, like it could be anything, and it'll come. And one of the challenges in-season is when — in-season, you get each week, and obviously a ton of fans, you get a ton of well-wishes, congrats, or 'Hang in there' if you had a tough game. And I remember asking (former Broncos coach) John Fox, 'How do you deal with these texts?' And he said, 'I just delete them all!' So I never delete Peyton's. I've always responded."

Nix also doesn't delete his messages, and he spoke about his relationship with Peyton after Wednesday's practice.
"I’ve referred to him on, ‘What do you do in this situation? What do you do in that situation? What helped you in a situation like this?’” Nix said. "That’s where somebody like Peyton comes in. [It’s] really helpful, and for a guy like that to be available and to help is really cool. Usually for him, [the messages are], ‘Keep your head up. Keep going back to work.’ Or, ‘Great game. Y’all fought hard.'"
Nix has been in a bit of a slump recently, missing receivers and struggling offensively. Alongside Manning, he has also gotten advice from other Hall of Famers like Kurt Warner on how to improve. Nix has appreciated the advice from those who have been where he is.
"It’s always exciting to hear from guys like that week in and week out because you know they’ve been through it,” Nix said.
Nix hopes to right the ship in a Week 5 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers, searching to give the Broncos a fighting chance to get back into the playoff hunt, even though the season is only five weeks old.
Maybe Peyton's advice will have something to do with it.
