The state of Colorado may be home to year-round football come spring 2027.
The United Football League announced sites for two new teams on Wednesday morning, and one of the new sites will be in Colorado Springs, the league said. The new team will play games at Weidner Field, with the name, colors, logo and brand identity scheduled to be announced on Oct. 25.
“Bringing professional football to Colorado Springs is a vote of confidence in our city and in what we have built downtown,” Mayor Yemi Mobolade said in a press release. “A UFL team will put Colorado Springs in front of a national audience, bring fans to Weidner Field, and give southern Colorado a professional football team to call its own. We are proud to welcome the UFL to the foot of Pikes
Peak – America’s Mountain, and we look forward to seeing our community make this team its own.”
Colorado Springs is a hotbed of sports. Not only is it home to the United States Air Force Academy, it is also home to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks of the USL Championship, and the Olympic Training Center. It has also been a home for Triple-A baseball (Colorado Springs Snow Sox, who relocated to San Antonio ) and semi-pro baseball (Rocky Mountain Vibes, which folded in 2025) as well.

The UFL, which had eight teams during the 2026 spring season, has produced several NFL players, four of whom are now on the Broncos: long snapper Mitchell Fraboni and outside linebacker Dondrea Tillman, plus wide receiver Michael Bandy and defensive back Sam Fresch on the practice squad.
Now with a local team, perhaps the Broncos could use the new UFL team in Colorado Springs as a homegrown talent pipeline from the spring to the fall.
