The Denver Broncos (0-1) struggled in a 31-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs (1-0) on Monday Night Football in Week 1. Following that ugly defeat, here are Denver's best (and worst) player grades from Pro Football Focus.
Broncos best offensive players
- G Quinn Meinerz: 79.9
- TE Evan Engram: 75.8
- LT Garett Bolles: 70.1
- RT Mike McGlinchey: 69.2
- FB Adam Prentice: 68.8
Nobody on offense posted a grade above 80. One bright spot was tight end Evan Engram hauling in four receptions for 43 yards and a touchdown.
Broncos worst offensive players
- QB Bo Nix: 33.4
- TE Adam Trautman: 43.1
- WR Troy Franklin: 44.7
- WR Jaylen Waddle: 46.9
- TE Nate Adkins: 46.9
It was a night to forget for Bo Nix in his return from an ankle injury. The third-year quarterback was sacked four times, fumbled three times and threw an interception. His new weapon, Jaylen Waddle, had just a single two-yard catch on three targets. Waddle also had a bad drop.
Broncos best defensive players
- DL Zach Allen: 74.8
- OLB Que Robinson: 70.9
- CB Pat Surtain: 65.4
- OLB Dondrea Tillman: 60.6
- OLB Nik Bonitto: 59.1
It was a rough night
all around for the defense, but Allen was a bright spot with five tackles, three quarterback hits and two sacks.
Broncos worst defensive grades
- DL D.J. Jones: 27.9
- LB Justin Strnad: 33.4
- DL Eyioma Uwazurike: 36.7
- LB Alex Singleton: 51.0
- CB Jahdae Barron: 51.0
Denver ran it back with Justin Strnad and Alex Singleton as their starting linebackers this season. And the Chiefs rushed for 220 yards on Monday.
Broncos special teams grades
- ST Pat Bryant: 74.7
- LS Mitchell Fraboni: 72.6
- KR Marvin Mims: 62.0
- P Jeremy Crawshaw: 68.7
- K Wil Lutz: 62.2 (FG) 60.0 (KO)
On an otherwise forgettable night, Marvin Mims returned two punts for 36 yards. He has now averaged 15.9 yards per punt return in his career, setting a new NFL record.
