The Denver Broncos have released a veteran wide receiver ahead of their Week 4 showdown with the San Francisco 49ers.
The Broncos released receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey on Friday, according to the NFL's transaction wire. It's not a surprising move given that Humphrey did not play in Week 1, drew just one target in Week 2 and was a healthy scratch in Week 3. Denver will presumably re-sign Humphrey to the practice squad, if he wants to stay with the club.
The Broncos needed to open up a spot on the 53-man roster after maxing out fullback Adam Prentice's three practice squad elevations. In order to be eligible to play against the 49ers, Prentice needed to be fully promoted to the active roster. Denver will officially sign Prentice to the 53-man roster after releasing
Humphrey.
Broncos roster moves
- Cut WR Lil'Jordan Humphrey
- Promote FB Adam Prentice to active roster
After promoting Prentice, Denver will have an opening for Humphrey on the practice squad.
