The Denver Broncos made a huge splash this spring when they agreed to trade multiple draft picks to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.
Waddle has now reunited with safety Brandon Jones, who played with the receiver in Miami from 2021-2023 before signing with the Broncos in 2024.
“He’s exactly who he was in Miami," Jones said of Waddle last month. "Might be a little faster, which is insane. I didn't think that was physically possible, but great teammate, great person. He just brings a different type of juice. It's a guy that can align anywhere, can catch any ball, run any route. Talks a lot of smack, too, which I appreciate. You kind of need that, especially during a training camp setting. Great dude, great teammate.”
Waddle brings speed, explosiveness and versatility to Denver's offense. He will be a big-play threat wherever he lines up, and opposing defenses will risk allowing other players to make big plays if they give extra attention to Waddle.
“I think it gives a lot of the other guys some opportunities depending on obviously down and distance and stuff like that," Jones said of Waddle joining the team. "We happen to be a match defense at times, so there's a lot of times, where, in base formation, we'll have to cover slots and I'm like [sarcastically], 'Oh, I can't wait. And I got Jaylen Waddle in the slot. This is awesome.' But it's part of the job, but he definitely gives a lot of people, and he will give a lot of people, those issues and problems down the line.”
After a brief preseason debut in August, Waddle will make his regular-season debut on Monday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 14. That AFC West showdown will provide the first extended look at Waddle in the Broncos' offense, and his arrival will be one of Denver's big storylines going into the 2026 season.
