Former Denver Broncos quarterback Ben DiNucci knows a little something about being an emergency quarterback option. DiNucci was pulled from a broadcast role to serve as a third-string quarterback with the Broncos after starter Bo Nix went down with a broken bone in his ankle in the AFC divisional game.
In Week 2, several starting quarterbacks went down with injuries, including Chicago Bears starter Caleb Williams, Washington Commanders starter Jayden Daniels and New York Giants starter Jaxson Dart. While Williams' injury is considered week-to-week, Daniels may be out for an extended period of time for the second season in a row, while Dart will have season-ending surgery on his knee.
Dart is backed up by veteran quarterback Jameis Winston, who
struggled in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams. DiNucci suggested that a current Broncos quarterback could be just what the doctor ordered in New York.

Ehlinger is currently the third quarterback on the Broncos' depth chart, behind Nix and Jarrett Stidham. DiNucci included Ehlinger among a list of potential trade candidates for New York.
Ehlinger had options elsewhere but opted to re-sign with Denver on a one-year deal earlier this year. Ehlinger lost a quarterback battle for the backup job this summer, but there seem to be no hard feelings.
Ehlinger previously attracted attention from several teams throughout the 2025 season, choosing instead to remain with the Broncos. Now, if Ehlinger is traded, he has no real choice but to leave, but it is safe to say that he is certainly comfortable here in Denver with a Super Bowl-caliber team.
