There is much discussion surrounding the Denver Broncos' offense and their lack of success in the first four games of the season. The Broncos have especially struggled in the first half of games, a period in which they have only scored 13 first half points, putting them in a position to play from behind in the second half of nearly every game.
Much of the discourse around the offense has been centered on the decision from coach Sean Payton to give up play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Davis Webb ahead of the 2026 season. After several weeks of defending Webb in public and in private, Payton gave his first noncommittal answer, so it was too early to talk about a change in play-calling after Week 4's loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Former
Broncos wide receiver and current 104.3 The Fan pundit Brandon Stokley has tweeted that Payton will take back play-calling from Webb this week, but that report was denied by 850 KOA's Brandon Albright.
Pro Football Hall of Famer and Broncos legend Champ Bailey chimed in on the topic during an appearance on the Up and Adams show hosted by Kay Adams this week, and he doesn't think the time is quite right for Denver to pull the trigger on Webb's duties.
"I don't think so," Bailey said in response to Adam's questioning if Payton should retake the role of primary playcaller. "I think you do what's best for the team, and (Payton) understands more about this team than any of us would ever understand. So, I will follow his lead on that if he decides to go that route, but I hate to say that you pull the rug from under your guy this early.
"I got to keep emphasizing how early it is. We haven't even got through a quarter of the season yet. It feels like it, but it's not a 16-game schedule anymore. We are almost at the point where you can start worrying. But what's the Broncos' record right now? ('2-2,' Adams answers). Thank you! They're still in it."

You can also view the full interview between Adams and Bailey here. Bailey and Adams went on to talk about a variety of topics, including the chance for Denver to try and use the injury to star cornerback Pat Surtain to their advantage.
Webb will have another shot to right the ship against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 5, a game which could prove to be important, as the Broncos face the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks four days later on Thursday Night Football.
Will the Broncos change anything drastically right now? At the very least, it's become one of the hottest topics of discussion in and around Dove Valley.
