The Broncos beat the Chargers on the road. On the road is important because before Sunday Denver had won their home games and lost their away games this season. You have to be able to win some road games to make the playoffs. The Chargers don’t have a great home field advantage, but before Sunday the Broncos had never won in SoFi despite all the Bronco fans that make the trip.
One of the goals of the Broncos this year was to have a better turnover ratio; more fumble recoveries and interceptions, and giving up less fumbles and interceptions. The turnover differential in this game was +2 for the Broncos. That’s just fumbles and interceptions. The Broncos missed
a field goal which is a turnover, and the Broncos stopped the Chargers on 4th down which is a turnover. The +2 turnover ratio won the game for the Broncos.
Thursday is coming quickly for the Broncos and the Seahawks. Hosting the game on a short week is an advantage for Denver. The Broncos don’t have travel, so they get half a day more time to prepare. Seattle lost a close game to their division rivals the 49ers on Sunday. Denver and Seattle don’t play each other twice a year like they did when I was playing, so they aren’t as familiar with each other as we were when we were in the same division. With the short week coaches need to simplify game plans. Players will have little practice time to get the plans solidified. It should be a “do what you do best” plan, rather than a “put in new stuff to attack your opponent’s weaknesses” plan.
Seattle is an upper echelon team like the Chiefs, like the Jaguars, like the Rams and like the Broncos. With the Broncos home field advantage and the short week, Denver 27 Seattle 21. Go Broncos!
