Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain (ankle) is considered week-to-week and could miss "about two weeks" after suffering a non-contact injury against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
Meanwhile, fellow cornerback Riley Moss (ribs) is also sidelined, and it's unclear if he'll be ready to return in time for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers. If Surtain and Moss are both ruled out for Week 5, Denver would be down to just three cornerbacks on the active roster: Jahdae Barron, Kris Abrams-Draine and Ja'Quan McMillian.
It's hard to imagine the Broncos going into a game with just three cornerbacks, especially after they just played a game in which they lost two. In addition to considering free-agent options, Denver could also elevate one
or two cornerbacks from their practice squad.
Undrafted rookie Brent Austin impressed this summer, and he is currently available on the practice squad. The Broncos also have ex-UFL star Sean Fresch, but he was seemingly signed more for his punt returning than for his defensive back contributions. Those two players give the team more depth at the position, and they will be names to watch when Denver considers making practice squad elevations later this week.
