NFL commissioner Roger Goodell removed Denver Broncos outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper from the commissioner’s exempt list on Friday, making him eligible to play in Week 7.
The Broncos will eventually have to make a corresponding move to create a spot for Cooper on the 53-man roster, but they won't have to do so immediately.
"The Commissioner has granted a one-game roster exemption for Denver's Jonathon Cooper, LB, Ohio State," the league wrote on the NFL's transaction wire last Friday. "The roster exemption will expire on Monday, October 26."
That means Cooper can practice this week without taking a spot on the active roster. If the Broncos want him to play against the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 25, however, he will have to be activated to the 53-man
roster by Saturday, Oct. 24. Once Denver activates Cooper, the club will need to make a corresponding move to create room for him.
