The Denver Broncos have made another surprise cut as they get down to their 53-man roster, and this one could go into the category of shocking.
Despite leading the Broncos in tackles this preseason and impressing every time he was on the field, the team has cut Red Murdock
. The Broncos selected Murdock with the final pick (No. 257 overall) in the 2026 NFL draft, earning him this year's spot as "Mr. Irrelevant".Despite not getting an inside linebacker in one of the earlier rounds, Murdock was seen as a great value pick for the team. He joined what many feel was the team's weakest position groups and looked like a lock to make the roster by the end of the preseason. Instead, his time in Denver is done... for now.
The Broncos will see if they can
slip Murdock through waivers and add him to the 17-man practice squad.
For now, the only inside linebackers remaining on the roster are Alex Singleton, Justin Strnad, Karene Reid, Jordan Turner and undrafted free agent Taurean York, though more moves are expected.
The Broncos also made a surprising move by waiving fifth-round pick Justin Joly on Sunday. It seems this coaching staff is favoring experience as the 2026 regular season approaches.
