The Denver Broncos will host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday in Week 2, looking for a better performance than they had against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football. It will be difficult for them to play any worse.
The Broncos gave up over 200 yards on the ground against the Chiefs in a 31-10 loss while also having an unbelievable number of missed tackles. The Broncos could not have scripted a worse start to their season and they have left themselves a sizeable early hole to dig out from.
The Broncos know they need to be better against a Jaguars team that beat them by 14 points at home last season, and these three bold predictions would indicate that they will be.
But before we dive into those, let's take a look at last week's bold
predictions and see how we did.
Prediction 1: J.K. Dobbins rushes for 100 yards and Jonah Coleman scores a touchdown
Wrong. This came nowhere close to happening, as Dobbins had only eight carries for 36 yards and Coleman saw only three offensive snaps.
Prediction 2: Broncos register five sacks
Wrong. The Broncos failed to get much pressure on Patrick Mahomes, largely because the Chiefs were rarely in situations where the Broncos could press the action. They finished with two sacks on the night, both by Zach Allen.
Prediction 3: Evan Engram scores two touchdowns
Wrong. But this one could have easily happened had the Broncos been more competitive. Engram scored the team's only touchdown on the night, matching the one touchdown reception he had last season.
Prediction 4: Broncos win 24-17
Wrong. Just a tad off on that one.
Bold predictions for Broncos vs. Jaguars in Week 2
1. Broncos contain Jaguars on the ground
After watching the Chiefs destroy the Broncos with their rushing attack in Week 1, you can expect that the Jaguars are going to look to do the same. John Shipley of Sports Illustrated, in one of his many wild predictions, feels the Jaguars will post at least 150 yards on the ground against Denver.
If the Broncos want to win this game, that can't happen. Fortunately for them, the Jaguars don't have Kenneth Walker III, or anyone like him, for that matter. The combination of Bahyshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez Jr. will be kept in check in this game.
Prediction: Broncos hold Jaguars to less than 75 yards rushing.
2. Evan Engram finds end zone again
It was hard to take any positives away from Week 1, but Engram's touchdown was one of them. He also led the team in receiving with four catches for 43 yards. So, we'll go back to that spot again and predict that Engram scores another touchdown.
Prediction: Evan Engram gets second touchdown of season, surpassing his total from 2025.
3. Defense registers 5 sacks... again
Same prediction as last week and though the Broncos didn't achieve this number against the Chiefs, they did have five sacks in the game against the Jaguars last December. Those five sacks came from four defensive linemen and Riley Moss.
In this game, edge rushers will be a factor for the Broncos as Nik Bonitto and Que Robinson get in on the action with one sack each, and the defensive line will account for three more.
Prediction: Broncos sack Trevor Lawrence 5 times.
