The Denver Broncos will likely be missing a starting safety this week, and possibly next week as well.
The "initial belief" is that Broncos star safety Talanoa Hufanga (ankle) could miss "a week or two," according to a report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Fortunately, the injury was "not considered severe upon last check."
Hufanga injured his ankle in the third quarter of Sunday's 23-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, and he was ruled out in the fourth quarter. Hufanga was always going to be a long shot to play on a short week with an ankle injury, and he might also be at risk of missing a Week 7 road game against the Arizona Cardinals, but that's to be determined.
Devon Key filled in for Hufanga against the Chargers, and Key would likely be the next
man up to start across from Brandon Jones if Hufanga is ruled out for a Thursday Night Football clash with the Seattle Seahawks this week. Behind Key, the Broncos also have JL Skinner and Tycen Anderson providing additional depth at safety, although they both play primarily on special teams.
Denver also has veteran Taylor Rapp and seventh-round draft pick Miles Scott available on the practice squad, and NFL teams are allowed to elevate up to two players to the game-day roster each week.
