If there has been one constant throughout the first years of the Sean Payton era in Denver, it's been the offensive line. In a free agent world where contracts across the league are inflated, and players change so frequently, the Broncos
offensive line has remained the same. In addition to remaining the same, the unit has performed at an elite level in both the run and the pass and is widely considered the best o-line in football.Offensive coordinator Davis Webb recently commented on the continuity of the line through his years under Payton.
"I’ve never been around somewhere that’s been about to be four straight years of basically the same offensive line," Webb said in late August. "It’s such a blessing because they’re good dudes, they’re coached
well, they’re nasty, they take things personal. I think pass block-wise, they’ve been pretty consistent over the last few years, and run-game wise, I think we’re trying to build on that consistency. Not saying it’s been bad, but we can definitely be more consistent. That’s a goal that we’ve tried to address this offseason. We’re just very blessed in all of our rooms that the offensive line’s been the most stationary. They’re the strength of our offense.”
When it comes to building the offensive line, it has been important for the Broncos to keep the group together.
"I think you always have to feed the offensive lines and defensive lines to sustain success in this league," general manager George Paton said at the NFL combine earlier this year. Denver has done just that: quarterback Bo Nix has been one of the most protected quarterbacks in the NFL the past few seasons, taking only 22 sacks in 2025 and 24 sacks in 2024. Right tackle Mike McGlinchey spoke about the closeness of the group and the standard they have set throughout their years together.
"I think the relationships that we’ve built together, like those guys are some of my best friends," McGlinchey said at the beginning of training camp. "If somebody steps out of line or somebody goes the wrong way or isn’t doing what they need to do, it makes it easier to kind of get on each other because there’s a standard that we’ve kind of set and that we’ve all agreed to uphold. I think just overall, each guy has to do their job better than they did the year before, or the day before like we were just talking about. That’s something that we preach every day, and that’s something that I’m not worried about moving forward.”
The Broncos offensive line looks to once again be the top unit in the NFL, even improving from a year ago. If that comes to pass, there is no telling how high the ceiling of the offense goes.
