The Denver Broncos cut safety Taylor Rapp on Saturday, according to the NFL's transaction wire.
It's a bit of a surprise move because Rapp had been helping fill in for an injured Talanoa Hufanga over the last three games, but Denver needed to open up a roster spot with wide receiver Pat Bryant poised to return from injured reserve to the 53-man roster on Saturday.
Rapp could return on the team's practice squad, and he is still eligible for one more elevation to the game-day roster this season. With Hufanga potentially returning to action against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, the Broncos will once again have four healthy safeties with Hufanga, Devon Key, JL Skinner and Tycen Anderson. Brandon Jones (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's
game.
Rapp totaled 14 tackles in three appearances (one start) with Denver while Hufanga was sidelined. Rapp could be re-signed to the practice squad as early as Saturday, perhaps even in time to be elevated to the game-day roster for Week 9.
