As the Denver Broncos prepare to face their AFC West foe, the Los Angeles Chargers on the road in Week 5, both teams are coming into this game with less than ideal circumstances. After the Broncos had the No. 1 seed in the AFC in 2025, and the Chargers were a wild-card playoff team, LA comes into this game at 0-4, while Denver is 2-2, seeking a big win on the tail end of a very difficult half-dozen games at the front third of their schedule.
Although the situations for both teams have worried fan bases and caused tremendous speculation, this series is always full of drama and competitive games. The inter-division rivalry stretches all the way back to the formation of the AFL, to their first-ever meeting in October 1960.
The Chargers won the past
three matchups between the teams in which each side has played its regular starters, with Denver winning the most recent matchup when LA rested its starters ahead of the playoffs in Week 18 last season. Despite this run from the Chargers, the Broncos lead the all-time series 74-58-1, per The Football Database.
Week 5 of the season comes as the Broncos hope to finish their California road trip with a win, after limping out of Week 4 as a bruised and battered team. The Chargers also come into this matchup with myriad injury issues of their own, most notably to their offensive line.
The Broncos and Chargers will surely make this game a good one, as the past two matchups with regular starters have been decided by just a margin of 10 points.
The two franchises are also scheduled to meet in Week 18.
