Now in his third season as the starting quarterback of the Denver Broncos, Bo Nix has shown many strengths and a few weaknesses.
He is the ultimate competitor and he is a great leader for this team. He does give teammates the sense that the game is never out of reach when he's on the field and he has a knack for coming up with timely plays when the team needs one. But he has struggled with pressure, and through two games this season, that has been evident.
Mark Chichester of Pro Football Focus took a look at the 10 quarterbacks who have faced the most pressure through two weeks and how they have performed. Nix has been pressured on 41.5 percent of his dropbacks and only mustered a 25.9 PFF grade on those plays, the worst of any quarterback on the list.
"Few quarterbacks have been hurt by pressure more than Nix through two weeks," wrote Chichester for PFF. "His 25.9 PFF passing grade under pressure ranks last among 32 qualifying quarterbacks, while his -0.960 EPA per play ranks 31st. Nix has produced four turnover-worthy plays on just 27 pressured dropbacks, and his 14.8% turnover-worthy play rate is the second-highest mark at the position."
This clearly indicates Nix's propensity to make costly turnovers when faced with pressure, such as on this horrendous decision.

We recently discussed Nix's bad habit of throwing off his back foot or backpedaling too often, and that is something that must be corrected.
Nix is not a dropback passer, at least not at his best. When you see the best of what he has to offer, it's when he throws on the run or on a designed play to get him out of the pocket, such as on a bootleg. This is something offensive coordinator Davis Webb needs to be working on to avoid as many pressure situations while giving Nix the best chance to make plays and run the offense efficiently.
This will be an interesting thing for fans to be watching for in Week 3 on Sunday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams.
