Last week, NFL executive Peter O’Reilly said the league is considering expanding to up to 10 international games in 2027, with Asia being among the options for a new region for games abroad.
This season, the league has or will play in Australia, Brazil, England, France, Spain, Germany and Mexico. The NFL has previously discussed the possibility of playing games in Italy and Japan.
The Denver Broncos will likely be a candidate to "host" an international next season because it will be the AFC's turn to have nine home games in an unbalanced 17-game schedule. The Broncos are required to "host" an international game by the 2028 season, and it would make sense to do so in 2027 when they have an extra home game.
Mexico is the Broncos' designated international
market, and the league prefers (but does not require) teams to "host" international games in their designated markets. So, Mexico would likely be a leading candidate for Denver's next game outside of the United States.
For now, the Broncos are focused on the 11 games remaining on their 2026 schedule. We'll find out next offseason if the club will have a game outside the USA in 2027.
