The Denver Broncos are banged up as they prepare to face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 5.
Broncos starting cornerbacks Pat Surtain (ankle) and Riley Moss (ribs), as well as wide receiver Pat Bryant (ankle), suffered injuries against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4 that could sideline them for multiple games. All three players were not present
for the portion of Wednesday's practice that was open to media members.ESPN's Adam Schefter has said Surtain and Bryant could be candidates for injured reserve, which would rule them out for at least four games. Reporting on Moss has been more positive, but he might also miss some time. If Denver ends up placing anyone on IR, they will likely wait until later in the week so the Chargers have to prepare
for various scenarios.
However, Broncos coach Sean Payton said, "I don't think so" when asked after Wednesday's practice if anyone will land on IR. That said, Payton also said he wouldn't reveal it if he did expect a player to land on IR. So make of that what you will.
With Surtain and Moss sidelined, Jahdae Barron and Kris Abrams-Draine are poised to serve as the Broncos' outside cornerbacks with Ja'Quan McMillian playing in the slot. At wide receiver, Denver still has Jaylen Waddle, Courtland Sutton, Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims available after losing Bryant.
The Broncos are scheduled to practice again on Thursday and Friday. The team will release a final injury report on Friday, and the club will likely make IR decisions on Saturday.
