The Denver Broncos have four players eligible to return from injury lists this week.
Three players — running back Jonah Coleman (ankle), offensive tackle Frank Crum and tight end Caleb Lohner — are eligible to return from injured reserve. A fourth player, offensive lineman Nick Gargiulo, is eligible to return from the reserve/physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
The key word is eligible, because we don't yet know when these players will be activated. Denver's offense could certainly use a spark from Coleman's eventual return, but we know Lohner is expected to be out until at least mid-season. With Crum and Gargiulo, the team will likely take roster management as well as health into consideration.
Whenever a player returns from an injury list,
the Broncos need to create a roster spot if they want to bring the recovered player back on to the 53-man roster. And teams are limited to eight players being designated to return from IR each season, so Denver will want to save at least a few of those designations in case other injuries happen later in the season.
Lohner is likely still a few weeks away from a potential return. Crum will be one to watch this week because he's a valuable swing tackle. Coleman, though, will draw the headlines as the club's exciting rookie running back. We'll see if any of the players are designated to return from IR when the Broncos return to practice on Wednesday.
