The Denver Broncos will face their biggest game of the 2026 season to date when they host the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. It will be a battle for first place in the AFC West.
The top CBS broadcast crew will handle the game, putting it in the spotlight of this week's slate of games. That means that Jim Nantz and J.J. Watt, who recently replaced Tony Romo, will call the action. This is the first time this season that the Broncos will be in the top CBS slot.
It makes sense. The AFC West is one of the more hotly contested divisions in the league, and the rivalry between the Broncos and Chiefs is one of the best in the NFL. The Chiefs pummeled the Broncos 31-10 in the season opener, so the Broncos will be looking for some revenge. If they get it,
they will take over first place in the division.
Broncos aiming to take over first place from Chiefs
After the way the Broncos looked in Week 1 against the Chiefs, the fact that they could overtake them in the division around the midway point of the season speaks to the team's resilience.
The Broncos won the AFC West last season, becoming the first team other than the Chiefs to win it since Denver last did it in 2015. Should they get into the driver's seat after Week 8, the Broncos will be in prime position for the remainder of the season, particularly when considering their remaining schedule.
Kickoff is set for 2:25 p.m. MT on Sunday. The Chiefs have not won in Denver since December 2022, with the Broncos taking the last three games against them at home.
