Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton hit a major milestone in the Broncos' 28-24 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Payton became the 11th coach all-time to hit 200 regular-season wins, and he did it in 320 games. Payton's Broncos did it the hard way, though. Facing an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit, quarterback Bo Nix and the offense rallied, scoring 15 unanswered points in the final 15 minutes of play, while the defense made a heroic goal-line stand to finish off the Chiefs and seize control of the AFC West in the process.
Payton was the sixth-fastest coach to reach 200 wins in his career. All the others are or will be Pro Football Hall of Famers.

When asked recently if he personally takes time to reflect on his milestones, Payton said the games and preparation came first.
"Not really now," Payton said last week. "In other words, I think it really is the moment. It’s the game. As soon as we’re finished, quick cold shower, coffee, film. You get immersed in the plan. I’ve been part of a lot of good teams with good players that have helped make a lot of that happen and we’re still going. In other words, someday maybe looking back on it. We’re just trying to find a way to get this one.”
For reaching 200 wins, Payton received the game ball from Broncos CEO Greg Penner after the game in the locker room.
A special win. 👏

Payton gave an emotional speech in the locker room.
"There is gonna to be a day where every one of us gets off that train, and I'm gonna say something," Payton said in his postgame message to the team. "I don't care if it's 200 wins, 50 wins, we're all better for having had a chance to ride it. I love every one of you. I can't believe that was 200... I don't care what you do; it's essential to be special."

Last week, Payton was asked if he envisioned reaching 300 games when he started his coaching career.
"When you get your first job, wherever it is, you are just trying to hit the ground running and you kind of have that three years where something better happens or there’s going to be another suit at the same podium," Payton said. "So there’s that fear of failure, there’s that sense of urgency. Then over time, then part of it’s staying healthy and enjoying it still. Being passionate about it because it’s for all these guys. The players, the assistants, we just talked about playing at home. All the positives and yet our bigger distractions are when you’re at home, those closest to you. It’s not just the tickets. So trying to compartmentalize all of that. To answer your question, I think there’ll be a time at some point, but I’ve been fortunate and sometimes we don’t get to pick our bloodlines. Sometimes that’s the job, and I’ve been fortunate to have had some good bloodlines getting started."
Payton will surely see the day when he will wear a gold jacket and have his bust in Canton, Ohio. For now, it's back to business, getting the Broncos back on track for Week 9 against the Carolina Panthers.
