Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain is "believed to have avoided a long-term injury," according to The Ringer's Tom Pelissero. Surtain is yet to undergo more testing, but his Achilles is intact, and it sounds like the star cornerback has avoided a worst-case scenario situation.
Surtain, 26, went down late in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers. Surtain went to the ground with a non-contact ankle injury and had to be helped off the field and into the locker room. He totaled four tackles before exiting the game when it was tied 3-3. Denver went on to lose 24-14.
Surtain is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL — many Broncos fans would dub him the best in the league — but the Broncos do have strong depth at the position.
After Surtain and Riley Moss (ribs) left Sunday's game, 2025 first-round draft pick Jahdae Barron and Kris Abrams-Draine played on the outside with Ja'Quan McMillian in the slot.

Surtain missed three games due to injury last season. The 2024 Defensive Player of the Year has totaled 12 interceptions through his first 83 games with the Broncos.
