The Denver Broncos are once again starting from scratch.
No, not in regards to their season; in regards to their playing surface.
For the past five seasons, the Empower Field natural grass has undergone a complete transformation, being replaced at least once a season. Being an outdoor stadium in the cold Rocky Mountains in the fall, the field takes a beating. From preseason to (hopefully) postseason, the Broncos' turf gets stomped on and torn up by players on opposing teams.
The main reason for the replacement is player safety, something the Walton-Penner ownership group has been serious about. The first time this happened was in 2022, and it has happened every year since. It was reported in 2022 that the replacement cost about $400,000.

Player safety and recovery has been a hallmark of the Walton-Penner ownership group. From the grass field to the dry float tanks and Cryochambers in Denver's state-of-the-art training facility at their Dove Valley campus, Broncos leadership has demonstrated a strong commitment to player wellness.
They have also extended that commitment to the safety of football players throughout the state through their ALL IN. ALL COVERED. Statewide Helmet Distribution Program, which distributed over 15,000 helmets through high school football programs across the state. The initiative recently expanded to assisting families by helping cover financial burdens of accessing the game, serving an additional 17,000 youth across Colorado.
The Denver Broncos' commitment to such practices has once again shown that their dedication to players and safety continues to pay dividends for the team now in first place in the AFC West.
The Broncos' next game on the new turf will be after the bye, in Week 11 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
