Everything went wrong for the Denver Broncos in Week 1 as they suffered a 31-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Generally, when things go bad in the NFL, a lot of that falls on the quarterback.
Whether that is fair or not, it is the way things go in the NFL. In this case, the Broncos could make a laundry list of reasons why they lost this game, but Bo Nix played one of the worst games of his playing career, likely dating back to his high school days.
What made things so bad for Nix wasn't what you see in the box score. He completed 17 of 28 passes with one touchdown and one interception. That certainly isn't great, but it was some of the incredible blunders he made in the game, such as having the ball slip out of his hands, which, fortunately
for him, was not a lost fumble because the Chiefs defender was out of bounds when he touched the ball.
However, Nix has a bad habit he needs to get out of his system. His propensity to throw off balance, particularly when leaning backwards or throwing off his back foot, is something he needs to get cleaned up. It's easy for a professional quarterback to get overconfident in the ability of his arm and Nix seems to believe he can make throws that are just terrible decisions. We saw this multiple times on Monday night.
Usually, it comes when he's facing too much pressure.

"I think you saw a little bit of happy feet from Bo. His feet just never looked like they were settled in the pocket."

This causes many of his throws to come out too low or be short of the target entirely. It also gives defenders a chance to make plays on some of these errant throws and create turnovers.
Against the Chiefs, Nix was trying to make plays to keep his team in the game, but he one-hopped a throw to Courtland Sutton and had a ball slip out of his hands while throwing as he went backwards that nearly resulted in a fumble.
The Broncos will need to shore up the protection with what many feel is one of the best offensive lines in football. But Nix needs to be better with his decision-making when that protection begins to break down and eliminate these types of throws whenever he can.
