While the Denver Broncos are completely focused on their Week 8 clash with the Kansas City Chiefs, there was one big domino that fell across the NFL to impact their Week 9 game against the Carolina Panthers.
The Carolina Panthers announced they have let go of defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero less than 18 hours after their 27-19 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football. The Panthers have allowed the fourth-most points and the eighth-most yards in the NFL through seven weeks (Carolina had their bye week in Week 5), per Pro Football Reference.
The move ended Evero’s almost three-year run with the Panthers, where he began in 2023. Before his time in Carolina, Evero was a defensive coordinator with the Denver Broncos under then-coach
Nathaniel Hackett. The Broncos went a dreadful 5-12 en route to firing Hackett after getting thumped by the Los Angeles Rams on Christmas Day, 51-14.
Before Carolina and Denver, Evero bounced around California with the San Francisco 49ers (offensive, defensive assistant), the Los Angeles Rams (safeties coach), the Green Bay Packers (defensive quality control) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (defensive quality control).
The Broncos will face interim defensive coordinator Todd Wash on Nov. 8, when Denver travels to Carolina in Week 9.
In the meantime, the Broncos face the Chiefs in what could very well decide the AFC West winner later in the year.
