Last week, Dan Patrick reported that the Indianapolis Colts would (or had) reached out to Peyton Manning about their general manager position. That report was quickly denied by local reporters in Indy and by national media members.
However, Patrick has doubled down, sharing that his source told him the Colts and Manning have talked, directly contradicting reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter and Mike Chappell of FOX59/CBS4 that said Indy has not talked to Manning about a potential role.
Patrick's source did acknowledge that the timing is not right for Manning, who wants to focus on Omaha Productions and his family at this time. Patrick's source said Manning wants to have both his children in or beyond college before he would take on a large role
in the NFL, but he is open to consulting in the meantime.
Patrick's source also threw out the possibility (just as speculation) of Manning potentially replacing Troy Aikman on ESPN's primary Monday Night Football broadcast. That seems unlikely given that Peyton and his brother, Eli, have a ManningCast deal with Disney signed through the 2034 NFL season.
For now, Manning remains focused on his family and Omaha Productions. That might change in the future, but Schefter and Chappell have reported the former QB is unlikely to take a GM role with the Colts.
