A former Denver Broncos cornerback is returning to college football.
Blake Cotton, who was signed by the Broncos on June 18 and waived/injured on July 31, is a candidate to play for the LSU Tigers, according to a report from Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.
Cotton (6-2, 195 pounds) totaled 30 tackles and seven pass breakups in 13 games at Utah last fall before entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent this spring. He suffered a hamstring injury on the first day of training camp acclimation and was released from Denver's injured reserve list with a settlement on Aug. 2.
Cotton entered the college football transfer portal on Aug. 20, and he now appears to be headed back to college football. Zenitz reported that "there are still things being worked through
before [Cotton] can be added to the roster but he’s a target" for LSU.
There's an ongoing court battle between the NCAA, SEC and LSU as several ex-NFL players are attempting to return to college football this summer. As it stands now, Cotton will be allowed to return to the NCAA level following a brief stint with the Broncos.
