The Denver Broncos may not be scoring a lot throughout the first four games of the 2026 season. However, when they do, they have been one of the top teams in the NFL at in succeeding at two-point conversions. The Broncos are currently 3-for-3 on two-point conversions so far this season, and are an incredible 7-of-9 dating back to the start of 2025.
Coach Sean Payton was asked if the Broncos would consider going for two more through the season, based on their success rate.
"No," Payton said simply on Wednesday. "I kind of like in the second half, I said this before, in a lower-scoring game, you might take a peek at that call sheet quicker. I’ve just seen so many times where, all right, you don’t get the two-point try, maybe you’re chasing it again.
So if it’s a lower-scoring game as we’re into that third quarter, that sheet might come out."
As Payton has said, two-point conversions have been primarily used late in the second half of games, where the Broncos have been trailing. Denver scored a pair of 2-point conversions against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3, and one against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4. In the past two seasons, Denver ranked as the ninth-best team at converting in 2025, and they are tied for first through four games of the 2026 season.
"I think (those situations came up) a couple weeks back, but each game is a different puzzle, but I understand the question and I don’t know that the first half would give you enough evidence, the point is important," Payton said. "I know there’s an average of two-point tries every year, you hope that you’re above that, but I think it’s a second-half decision.”
So, don't expect the two-point conversions to be broken out in the first half anytime soon; however, Denver could look to those plays to help them score some touchdowns inside the five when they go down the field, all thanks to their success late in games.
