The Denver Broncos retained nearly all of their 53-man roster from 2025, with just two new veterans on the 2026 roster after all was said and done following roster cuts.
Because of this, Sports Illustrated writer Albert Breer believes that the Broncos are the proud owners of the deepest roster in football this fall, despite the fallout from the Russell Wilson disaster four seasons ago.
"The Broncos might have the NFL’s deepest roster, which is pretty remarkable given that they’re still just four years removed from the Russell Wilson trade," Breer wrote in an article detailing one takeaway from every team. "They might have the NFL’s best collection of linemen, they’re tremendously well-stocked at the premium positions (receiver, cornerback, edge
rusher), and their quarterback is in position to take another step with Jaylen Waddle coming aboard and joining a skill group that has a bunch of complementary weapons that’ll benefit from his presence. All the way around, this is a sturdy group that Sean Payton and George Paton have put together, and it should be more prepared than anyone to deal with the natural attrition that an NFL season brings."
The Broncos find themselves in a tremendously enviable position not only of being a playoff contender, but also as a team trying to get better where their deficiencies were in 2025. With the upgrade at receiver from Waddle, and the youth movement coursing through the veins of this roster, Denver is rightfully considered a preseason contender, now trying to prove they are worth the attention and consideration still yet to be owed them.
The Broncos open their title contention in 2026 against their AFC West rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs, on Sept. 14. That Monday Night Football showdown will be nationally televised on ESPN and ABC.
