The Denver Broncos' loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night was a bad way to start the season in all three phases of the game. After reviewing the film, coach Sean Payton was less than pleased with the efforts of the team.
"Certainly a slap in the face," Payton said in a conference call on Tuesday. "When you come off training camp and your offseason program, it’s one thing to lose in a hard-fought game where you feel like you played well. I don’t feel like we played up to our standard, and certainly that starts with us as coaches, myself."
The Broncos were underwhelming in their premiere game of the season, getting only 176 yards of total offense and missed a historic amount of tackles in their loss to the Chiefs. That kind of result cannot
be repeated if Denver is going to be a playoff contender, let alone a championship contender.
"Yes, it’s disappointing," Payton said of the game. "That would be a great way to describe it.”
The Broncos have an opportunity to bounce back against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2, but there is a lot that needs to happen in order for the team to show their potential once again.
