The Denver Broncos offense hindered themselves on Monday Night Football in an embarrassing offensive display against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Broncos offense, led by captains Bo Nix and Courtland Sutton, only had one successful drive in the game, which ended in an Evan Engram touchdown. The offense only put up 176 total yards in an eventual 31-10 loss.
The evening also served as the playcalling debut for offensive coordinator Davis Webb. The offensive performance led many to already call for Webb's job, and strongly call for the return of Sean Payton to playcalling.
Instead of criticizing Webb, Nix said the offense did Webb no favors on Monday night.
"I think the players did not make it easy on him today," Nix said in his postgame comments.
"Pretty pitiful actually."
Nix praised Webb's ability to move on to the next play, and try to get the offense jump-started, unfortunately, to no avail. Webb, a former quarterback himself, learned the importance of moving to the next play throughout his playing career.
"To me in the headset, he treated it like a pro," Nix said. "(Webb was) saying things like, ‘Next one. Let’s go. You’ve got this.’ He shot it with conviction. We called exactly what we prepared for and what we wanted to get to. We just didn’t execute and then we were behind. I don’t think we did a whole lot of good consistently enough to win the game at all.”

Moving on to Week 2 will be important for the Broncos to bounce back against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
"I think exactly like he would’ve responded with a win," Nix said in response to a question about how Webb may have been feeling after the loss. "He would’ve acted the same way, say it wasn’t good enough, finding ways to continue going next week. I think he’s going to move on really well.”
The Broncos and Webb now have a chance to exorcise some demons against the Jaguars, who beat Denver on their home field by double digits in 2025. How they respond this week will be a huge sign of what we can expect out of the offense for weeks to come.
