It took three days, but someone from the Kansas City Chiefs came clean on the crucial last-second false start that cost the Chiefs a touchdown in their Week 8 matchup against the Denver Broncos and moved them back five yards.
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce spoke on the play with his brother Jason on their "New Heights" podcast on Wednesday, and the brothers gave their takes on what transpired.
After talking about Bo Nix's comeback, Jason gave the context of the play. "A lot of people are saying this wasn't a penalty; I'm going to go on record and say that this is definitely a penalty," Jason said.
"Other people" include Travis' coach, Andy Reid, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes.
"Yeah, he flinches," Travis admitted.
Jason
went on to explain the silent cadence the Chiefs use, and why it may have affected the false start penalty in the first place.
Travis, to his credit, didn't mince words about the situation.
"At the end of the day, we still had another play," Travis said. "I'll take my guy Pat Mahomes on the six-yard line with the game on the line; I'll take that any day of the week. So we gotta execute at the end even more. We can't let the penalty absolutely deflate us and not let us execute at the end of the game."

Speaking of penalties and the Chiefs, Travis previously admitted that he got away with a blatant holding penalty in Week 1 against the Broncos.
So, even if the false start wasn't as obvious as Jason and Travis said it was, this may have been a little cosmic justice from the football gods.
Denver now puts Kansas City in its rearview mirror and is gearing up for Week 9 on the road against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
