It seems that the buzz about Peyton Manning potentially joining the Indianapolis Colts as their new general manager (with the possibility of a future minority ownership role) was overblown.
Last week, Dan Patrick reported that a source told him the Colts' first call "will be/has been" to Manning after the club fired ex-GM Chris Ballard. However, it was reportedly shortly thereafter that Indy had not reached out to Manning about the role. That doesn't mean a conversation couldn't happen down the road, but a new report from ESPN's Adam Schefter has indicated Manning won't end up as Indy's GM.
"The Colts have not approached Manning about their vacant GM job nor would the Hall of Fame quarterback be expected to be interested in the position, sources
said,"Schefter wrote for ESPN. "Manning has not trained or aspired to become an NFL general manager, not with all that he has going on in his life."
While Manning is not interested in the daily demands of a GM position, he "would be willing to listen and consider any NFL opportunities at any time," according to Schefter. That said, "the Colts have not discussed any of those possibilities with him." So it sounds like Manning's not interested in a GM job, and at least right now, Indy's not interested in him.
