Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season — and the first week of the fantasy football campaign — wrapped up on Monday evening. Now it's time to overreact to all the league's early-season happenings.
We've put together a quick list of players to target on the fantasy football waiver wire this week, with options at running back, wide receiver, tight end, quarterback and team defense/special teams.
Each player's roster percentage is listed in parentheses, provided courtesy of ESPN data. Now, let's jump into the top waiver wire targets to consider going into Week 2 of the 2026 NFL season.
10 fantasy football waiver wire targets
1. RB Kaelon Black (15%): Black led the Niners' backfield in Week 1, getting four more carries than Christian McCaffrey. That probably won't happen every
week, and CMC will dominate the targets out of the backfield, but Black could end up being more than just a valuable handcuff option in 2026. If he continues getting this level of workload, Black could approach flex consideration.
2. RB Kendre Miller (1%): Miller and Travis Etienne both got nine carries in Week 1. Notably, Etienne got nine targets compared to zero for Miller, but Miller scored an eight-yard touchdown. Miller is worth stashing in case he continues poaching TDs and/or if Etienne is ever unavailable this season.
3. RB Keaton Mitchell (21%): The Chargers' offense had a terrible game in Week 1, but better days are likely ahead. Omarion Hampton will continue to lead L.A.'s backfield, but Mitchell is a valuable handcuff with big-play potential.
4. WR Jalen Coker (51%): Coker exploded with eight receptions for 138 yards and two touchdowns on nine targets in Week 1. Fantasy football managers obviously can't expect that kind of production every week, but Coker should be rostered in more leagues.
5. WR Devaughn Vele (13%): The Saints will likely trail in many games this season, and their pass-heavy offense led to seven receptions for 69 yards and a touchdown on nine targets for Vele in Week 1.
6. TE Kenyon Sadiq (35%): The rookie hauled in three targets for 21 yards and scored on a three-yard run in his NFL debut. It can be dangerous to chase touchdowns, and Sadiq only got four total touches in Week 1, but the Jets will likely find ways to keep the talented tight end involved.
7. TE Michael Mayer (30%): It sounds like it's possible that Brock Bowers might be able to return in Week 2, but Mayer could be worth stashing in case Bowers' absence is extended. Mayer grabbed six of seven targets in Week 1.
8. QB Tyler Shough (47%): Expect New Orleans to play from behind often this fall. Shough totaled 56 passing attempts in Week 1 and finished the day with 410 yards and three touchdowns. He also tossed two interceptions, but his potential for yards and TDs make Shough a streaming candidate.
9. QB Malik Willis (21%): Miami's offense struggled in the opener, but Willis did throw for 220 yards while adding 39 yards and a touchdown on the ground. That rushing ability gives Willis upside going forward.
10. 49ers D/ST (7%): After allowing just seven points to the Super Bowl-favorite Rams in Week 1, San Francisco is now set to face a struggling Dolphins offense in Week 2. The Niners are a strong streaming candidate this week.
