The NFL trade deadline is less than a week away, so rumors should reach a fever pitch heading into Week 9.
The Denver Broncos are a team clearly in Super Bowl contention and many fans want to see George Paton and Sean Payton take an aggressive approach to land a piece that puts the team over the top. However, that may not be the best approach.
Plenty of big names have been mentioned as possibilities, and some deals have already been made. Last week, the Indianapolis Colts traded both Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner.
The Broncos have been strongly connected to Colts running back Jonathan Taylor. Many fans would like to see the Broncos get in on the Colts' fire sale by obtaining one of the best running backs in the league.
Broncos should be smart regarding Jonathan Taylor, other deals
It remains to be seen
how strongly the Broncos want to bring Taylor into the fold. With the Colts' rumored asking price, the Broncos need to tread lightly. Some would disagree, but after already trading a first-round pick to get Jaylen Waddle this season, the Broncos may want to think twice about sending more picks away.

Sure, Taylor is a terrific back and names like Jonah Coleman and RJ Harvey aren't quite as attractive. But the Broncos are building something with Coleman and after winning six of their last seven games, there's not a great argument to fix what isn't broken.
To be clear, the Broncos do not need to make a trade. If they were going to splurge on a player, that player should have been Nelson.
There will be lesser names available out there. If a team is willing to part with an inside linebacker to give the Broncos more depth at that position, that's a deal the team should be interested in. This isn't to say that the team shouldn't be interested in Taylor, but giving up a huge payment to get him could end up being detrimental to the team.
This is why a calculated, intelligent approach needs to be taken. It's easy to get carried away and make a big deal out of saying you're all in and you're going for it this year. But we already know that about this team, and the pieces are already in place. This isn't Madden, so make deals that make sense not just for the rest of this season, but for the next several seasons.
