More details have emerged about Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain's ankle injury.
Surtain went down with what appeared to be a non-contact injury in the second quarter of a Week 4 game against the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 4. However, James Palmer of Prime Video has since clarified that the injury happened before that play.
"For Surtain, it's important to know that it wasn't a non-contact injury like it's being reported," Palmer tweeted on Thursday afternoon. "Surtain suffered the ankle injury on the play before breaking up a pass to [George] Kittle."
Denver did not place Surtain on injured reserve, which would have automatically ruled him out for at least four games. Surtain has now missed two games, and it sounds like he could be in danger
of missing a third.
"It might be tough for him to return next week and looks more like in two weeks vs the Chiefs as a return," Palmer said of Surtain's potential timeline.
The Broncos will go on the road to face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7 (Oct. 25) before returning home to host the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8 (Nov. 1). Surtain's eventual return will provide a big boost to the defense as Denver attempts to push for a playoff spot in the second half of the season.
