It has been a wild 24 hours for the Denver Broncos. During their 24-14 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in Week 4, the Broncos lost one of their rising stars in the third quarter when wide receiver Pat Bryant was carted off the field with a severe-looking ankle injury.
While many feared a season-ending injury, the Broncos got a bit of good news when it was revealed Bryant was diagnosed with an ankle sprain on Monday, an injury that could keep him out for a few weeks, but not the rest of the season.
Quarterback Bo Nix spoke about Bryant's injury after the game on Sunday.
"He's a great football player,” Nix said. "He’s meant a lot to us. Hopefully, it's not too bad, and we'll get him back sooner rather than later, but I know he'll be aggressive
in rehab and I know he wants to be back out there with us, and we just got to find a way to fill in his spots and continue to find a way to get better.”
Bryant had been one of the standouts of training camp and the early season, earning rave reviews from coaches and Nix for his wide range and catching ability.
Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle has shared a room with Bryant since being acquired in a trade in March. He spoke about the devastating loss for the Broncos.
“It was very difficult," Waddle said of seeing Bryant go down. "Pat is definitely a key part of our offense and a key part of our team. I told him to keep his head up, and we’re praying for him.”
The Broncos' receiver room took a huge blow, but they have some options behind him in their room and on the practice squad. Hopefully the injury bug is done biting Denver's roster after Sunday's rough outing.
