They say that a football team is like family, because of the closeness you develop with the teammates you have throughout the year. Imagine when a member of the football team is family!
The Denver Broncos set their initial 17-player practice squad on Monday, and wide receiver Dane Key made the grade and was signed back to Denver, the team he spent the preseason with. Dane is the younger brother of 2026 NFL All-Pro special teams ace Devon Key, who also plays safety. This marks the first time both brothers have been on the same team in their lives.
"Now I get the chance to be on the same team as my big brother on the biggest stage and all my emotions came out at once," Dane told the Denver Gazette's Chris Tomasson after the Broncos signed him as an undrafted
free agent back in April. "I wanted to be on the same team as my brother."
Dane saw action in the preseason, catching three passes in three games for 52 yards — two of his receptions went for 25 yards each.
Brotherly love isn't new to the Broncos: Hall of Fame cornerback Champ Bailey and his brother Boss Bailey played together in Denver during the 2008 season.
Despite being on the practice squad, Dane hopes to make an impact at some point during the 2026 season. Maybe he could be running punt coverage alongside his brother.
