We are through the first six weeks of the 2026 NFL season and one of the most talked-about incidents of the season has been the recent tirade that former NFL quarterback and current analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick went on in the direction of Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix.
Now, everyone is seemingly putting their two cents in on the subject.
The latest was that of former Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott, who was asked about the topic during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show.
Rich Eisen discussed Fitzpatrick and ESPN's Dan Orlovsky being highly critical of Nix. McDermott gave both analysts credit because they played the position at a high level before giving his opinion on the Broncos' starting QB.
"I remember going against Bo last season and
the season before that", said McDermott on The Rich Eisen Show. "He's a very competitive, edgy type of player with a certain play style, that's how I know him, and I have a great amount of respect for him. What I'm seeing a little bit this year, to their point, is some of the... maybe indecisiveness. And listen, he's kind of vollied back and forth to two different play-callers now, so maybe that's it. You just never know.
"He's got game, he's got the skills. I see him on the bench a little bit this year. He looks very relaxed and maybe that's just how he is. I wasn't in this seat that I'm in currently this year, I wasn't in that seat last year, I was on the other sideline where I'm not looking at Bo and how he is off the field and on the bench. But, sometimes, a quarterback in particular needs to have that demeanor on the sideline because you have to stay consistent, you have to stay poised for your team. There is something a little bit off this year, and I would agree from that standpoint, because I know what he's capable of doing."
When Eisen commented that Nix looks different than the guy that McDermott saw in the division round, McDermott replied, "Absolutely."
As of right now, McDermott's final game in the NFL came in a loss to Nix and the Broncos in last year's playoffs. Buffalo fired McDermott shortly after that loss after nine seasons as the team's head coach.
Nix gets his next chance to reverse this ongoing negative narrative when the Broncos (4-2) face the Arizona Cardinals (2-4) on Sunday.
