Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix continued his tradition of giving rookies their first touchdown ball after they score when running back Jonah Coleman had his first trip to paydirt on Sunday.
Coleman, a fourth-round pick out of Washington, scored the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter of the Broncos' Week 2 comeback win over the Jacksonville Jaguars before hitting the famous "Mile High Salute" celebration in front of the fans. Coleman had dropped the ball in the end zone, but Nix went over, picked it up and handed it back.
Last season, Nix did the same for second-year wide receiver Pat Bryant and running back RJ Harvey.

"Hopefully there’ll
be a few more of his touchdowns that he can hang on to," Nix said of Harvey's first touchdown last fall, and the sentiment surely applies to Coleman in 2026. "The first one’s always the most important. After that, he’s going to be in the end zone a lot more times, and so he doesn’t have to keep all of them. But that one is definitely going to go in his house one day, and he can be excited about it and proud about what he’s accomplished and know he’s got more to go.”
The tradition stems from veteran wide receiver Courtland Sutton grabbing Nix's first touchdown pass in 2024, and handing the ball back to him.

Coleman has certainly earned the approval of fans and coaches, and almost certainly has earned more playing time for his veteran-like play at the end of the game. Coleman will have the opportunity to go against one of the Super Bowl favorites, the Los Angeles Rams, in Week 3.
